Welcome to Sycamore Class

Class Teacher -  Miss Logan

Class Teaching Assistants – Miss McGuinness and Miss Gibbs

Class Governor – Mrs Speakman-Davies.

Literacy

In Literacy we will continue to use our Talk 4 Writing  process. We will be reading King Kong by Anthony Browne. This is a well-known tragic story of a young woman and the giant gorilla she encounters. His enthralling story involves battles with dinosaurs, daring rescues and incredible escapes leading up to one of the most famous climaxes of all time! Throughout the Talk 4 Writing cycle we will be working on using expanded noun phrases and relative clauses in our writing as well as continuing to develop spelling and handwriting.

Mathematics

In mathematics, we will be working on multiplication and division followed by fractions. These subjects require fluent recall of times table facts so please ensure you are practising each week. The hard work at home is having a huge impact on the accuracy and speed of children’s calculations.  Throughout our maths lessons we will tackle problem solving and reasoning questions.

Science

In science our topic is separating mixtures. In this unit we will be exploring different ways to separate mixtures and solutions including sieving, filtering, dissolving and evaporating.

Topic

Our topic for spring term is Brazil. We will be learning about life in Brazil and how this compares to our life in the UK. Later on in the term, we will begin to look at biodiversity in tropical rainforests and the impact of deforestation on this diverse but fragile biome.

Music

This year, we will be learning to play ukulele on Wednesday afternoons.

Spanish

During Spanish lessons, we will learn basic words and phrases including counting.

R.E

We will be learning about Judaism and places of worship.

Reminders

P.E is now on a Monday and Tuesday; please ensure P.E kits are in school, including pumps or trainers. Art will also take place on a Tuesday. This half term we will have Tommy working with our class on Fridays 9:00-10:00.

Homework has changed format this year, we are encouraging children to read at home as much as possible, their reading records will be checked weekly. Children will be given a times table test on Thursday to practise at home. Times tables will be tested each Tuesday.

Children need to bring their reading books and reading diary into school every day. Please encourage your child to read a wide range of texts regularly, don’t forget to write in their reading records to contribute towards their 100 Reads!

Please do not hesitate to come and see me if you have any questions.

Many thanks

Miss Logan
