Willow

Welcome to Willow Class with Miss Jackson (Reception)

I hope you have all had a fantastic Easter break and are looking forward to the summer term.

We have a very exciting half term planned for Willow Class, our topic will be ‘Food’ based on the children’s love of cooking. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn through in our themed role play area. Opportunities for learning will planned that are linked to specific outcomes and targets for the children, these will have links to the different areas of learning that are set out in the EYFS curriculum.

We will be following the Talk for Writing structure in Willow Class with a strong focus on the oral retelling of stories and story structures. Our book ‘The Gingerbread Man’ links to our whole class topic.

In maths we will continue to focus on the recognition of number to 20 as well as addition and subtraction using concrete materials. We will also start to look at problem solving using halving and doubling, this also links nicely to our topic.

As the weather becomes brighter, we aim to work outside as much as possible to make the most of our lovely outdoor area.

Important information

Snack

In Reception, we have snack time which allows your child to access fruit and water during break time. In addition to this you may also purchase apple juice, orange juice and toast for a small fee. The children will have access to water throughout the day.

Learning Journeys

We will be recording your child’s learning throughout the year with observational notes, videos and photographs (using an iPad). However, we appreciate that a lot of learning also takes place out of school. These wow moments can be recorded and uploaded onto Tapestry. This might be recorded as a quote from your child, a photograph, a picture or writing. If you you would like any further support with adding to your child’s learning journey then please come in and see me. I look forward to reading any observations you make at home!

This term your child will also be taking home a star each week, this is for you to write any wow moments on that happen at home. This will then be added to your child’s learning journey.

Reading

All of the children will be given a reading book at their level, a book of interest to share and a reading diary. Please read with your child as often as possible and complete the yellow diary. There is a reading guidance sheet in the front of your child’s reading diary as well as a tricky word book mark which corresponds with your child phonics group. Please ensure that reading books and diaries are brought to school every day.

Phonics

At The Oaks Primary School we follow Phonics Play. Each day your child will be introduced to a new phonic sound and then they will be given opportunities to apply the new sound that they have learnt throughout the week. Each day the sound will be displayed by the classroom door so you are aware of the sound that your child has been working on.

PE

Our PE day will be on a Friday afternoon.
Please make sure that all clothes are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Your child’s PE kit will stay in school for the half term, at which point you might like to take it home for a wash! Jewellery should not be worn in school. This is especially important for PE.

Music

The children will have music each week with Mrs McVey and will focus on creating different sounds with their voice and a variety instruments.

House Teams

We have a ‘house points’ system at school. We have 4 house point teams and they are named after significant British people. All of the children have been placed in a group, if your child has an older sibling then they will be in the same team. The house point systems means that at the end of each half term the house with the most house points will be rewarded with a treat. The children also compete during Sports Day in house teams.

Please don’t hesitate to pop in at the end of the day or contact the school office if you have any queries or anything you would like to discuss.

Many thanks

Miss Jackson
