We have a very exciting half term planned for Willow Class, our topic will be ‘Dinosaurs’ this has been taken from the children’s interests and will be developed throughout the different areas and activities available in the provision. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about dinosaurs and to keep them engaged in their learning. Opportunities for learning will planned that are linked to specific outcomes and targets for the children, these will have links to the different areas of learning that are set out in the EYFS curriculum.
We will be following the Talk for Writing structure in Willow Class with a strong focus on the oral retelling of stories and story structures. Our book ’10 Little Dinosaurs’ will be our talk for writing text and it will be used to make cross curricular links with maths.
In maths we will focus on the recognition of number to 20 as well as addition and subtraction using concrete materials. We will also start to look at shapes and shapes in the environment which will link to our topic.
As the weather picks up, we will be making the most of our amazing outdoor area.
In Reception, we have snack time which allows your child to access fruit and water during break time. In addition to this you may also purchase apple juice, orange juice and toast for a small fee. This can be order online via ParentPay The children will have access to water throughout the day.
We will continue to recording your child’s learning throughout the year with observational notes, videos and photographs (using an iPad). However, we appreciate that a lot of learning also takes place out of school. These wow moments can be recorded and uploaded onto Tapestry. This might be recorded as a quote from your child, a photograph, a picture or writing. If you you would like any further support with adding to your child’s learning journey then please come in and see me. I look forward to reading any observations you make at home!
At home time a tray will be placed with additional support materials for those who would like to help their child at home with writing and maths. Also in the tray there will be stars, these are for you to write any wow moments that happen at home. This will then be added to your child’s learning journey.
All of the children will be given a reading book at their level, a book of interest to share and a reading diary. Please read with your child as often as possible and complete the yellow diary. There is a reading guidance sheet in the front of your child’s reading diary as well as a tricky word book mark which corresponds with your child phonics group. Please ensure that reading books and diaries are brought to school every day.
At The Oaks Primary School we follow Phonics Play. Each day your child will be introduced to a new phonic sound and then they will be given opportunities to apply the new sound that they have learnt throughout the week. Each day the sound will be displayed by the classroom door so you are aware of the sound that your child has been working on.
Our PE day will be on a Wednesday and Friday afternoon.
Please make sure that all clothes are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Your child’s PE kit will stay in school for the half term, at which point you might like to take it home for a wash! Jewellery should not be worn in school. This is especially important for PE.
The children will have music each week with Mrs Yates and will focus on creating different sounds with their voice and a variety instruments. Music lessons take place on a Monday afternoon.
We have a ‘house points’ system at school. We have 4 house point teams and they are named after significant British people. All of the children have been placed in a group, if your child has an older sibling then they will be in the same team. The house point systems means that at the end of each half term the house with the most house points will be rewarded with a treat. The children also compete during Sports Day in house teams.
Please don’t hesitate to pop in at the end of the day or contact the school office if you have any queries or anything you would like to discuss.
